What's New About the 2026/27 Season
- U-23 rule scrapped - clubs are no longer required to field an under-23 player as a starter for the first 45 minutes, a mandate that applied in previous seasons. The foreign player quota itself is unchanged: still up to 11 registered, 9 in the matchday squad, 7 on the pitch at once.
- New relocation rule - a club that moves its home base after receiving its league license now loses two points as a penalty.
- League Cup returns - I.League is reviving a national cup competition for Super League and Championship clubs, last held as the Piala Indonesia in 2018/19. The new League Cup kicks off November 3, 2026.
- Two clubs rebranded - Isenmulang Kalteng FC (ex-Adhyaksa FC) and Java United FC (ex-Malut United FC) both changed name and home city.
- Championship start date moved up - I.League revised its calendar in mid-July 2026, bringing Championship kickoff forward from September 18 to September 12.
